Held every March on the University’s River Campus, the SIMCON conventions have, for the past thirty years, provided a meeting-place where gameplayers from the Rochester area, the surrounding multistate region, and beyond (including attendees from as far away as California) can learn from each other and from experts in the field, exchange ideas, and test their skills against those of their peers in friendly competition.

Confirmed guests and participants to date include: David Orange: “Sleepy Klingon” from Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country; Emmett Plant: writer, composer and producer who has produced over twenty Star Trek audiobooks for CBS/Paramount, in addition to composing and producing soundtracks and video segments for countless interactive entertainment products. He is also the commanding officer of the USS Blackheart, the chapter of STARFLEET International chartered in Philadelphia, with a focus on production for media nerds, both professional and amateur.; Brian Holloway: Special Make-Up F/X Supervisor for Star Trek: Phase II will direct the costuming track and offer programming from his breadth of experience with costuming production and numerous conventions; Lee Cox: Costuming expert, makeup artist and magician will offer a variety of costuming and makeup panels of interest to a broad cross-section of attendees; Andrew Greenberg: Star Trek computer game and role-playing game designer; Keela and Katkith’s Klingon Karaoke; Three concurrent tracks of programming will be dedicated to the Star Trek universe in general, the Klingon Empire in particular, and costuming & makeup together. Three concurrent 24-hour gaming rooms will be devoted to role-playing games, board games and card games. A 24-hour video room will feature episodes of several well-known Internet-based Star Trek series, a variety of Star Trek-related TV specials, programs featuring Star Trek celebrities and of course, the ever-popular blooper reels!

UltimaCon is an Anime, Gaming and LARPing Convention that seeks to cater to a variety of interests such as Japanese culture and animation, video gaming, tabletop miniatures and collectible card gaming, Live-Action-Roleplaying, and other intertwining interests. We are a group run by extremely dedicated, talented, innovative and capable volunteers seeking to provide a multitude of exhibitions, events, interactive panels, discussion and educational panels, and guests to the fans of these interests. We will continue to strive to provide the best convention experience possible. We plan to feature such events as cosplay (costume + play) contests consisting of skits and walk-ons, a live concert from one or more bands, two different styled dances along with a formal ballroom dance, exhibition/dealer’s room, artist alley, charity auctions, AMV showings, fashion show as well as audience interactive events such as Anime Dating Game, Anime Idol, an Improv show, Anime Game Show, Karaoke, various tabletop and video gaming tournaments, and many LARPing events. We will be offering a wide variety of fan-ran panels ranging anywhere from cosplay workshops to fandom based panels to industry and art related themes. In addition to these specific events, UltimaCon will have rooms open all weekend for such actives as table top gaming, arcade gaming, console gaming and LARPing. While we are offering a wide variety of entertainment, we also hope to promote an understanding and education for Japanese culture and foreign cultures in general while providing a safe atmosphere for social networking along with encouraging attendees to participate and excel in various arts and crafts such as textiles, theatre, material carving, drawing and painting, dancing, and music just to name a few.
