Matsuricon is an annual Japanese pop-culture event that focuses primarily on Japanese animation (known as anime), manga (Japanese graphic novels), and video games. We also showcase both American and Japanese popular culture, due to the natural overlap of fandom from both genres. We are considered a family friendly event. Most of our panels are all ages unless otherwise stated. We do showcase certain events that are not appropriate for attendees under the age of 18, and our convention staffers check the IDs of all attendees before they enter these events. Because of our family friendly image, our mascots are a traditional Japanese family consisting of a father, a mother, a son, a daughter, and a dog. Matsuricon’s goal is to promote the cultural awareness of japanese pop-culture through related events, special guest speakers and cultural presentations.

Intervention is a combination of educational conference, art festival, and gaming convention in its fifth year. Its goal? To Intervene and Inspire the whole family to take advantage of what they can do with creativity and technology. Many guest speakers will attend - and, in keeping with the convention's focus all of the guests are creators who have made a name for themselves by using the Internet to build their fan base. New guest speakers include David Pescovitz, co-editor/managing partner of Boing Boing and a research director at Institute for the Future and Jonathan Rosenberg, the creator of the webcomic Scenes From A Multiverse. Pete Abrams of the popular webcomic Sluggy Freelance returns along with numerous other art and comics professionals. Always on the cutting edge of innovation, new events this year will include 3D printing and Arduino, an inexpensive and easy way to program interactive objects. The convention features educational content, childrens programming, board gaming, video gaming, vintage arcade cabinets, an extensive art festival, live action roleplaying, musical performances, and plenty of giveaways. As in past years, there will be a charity auction to benefit the Electronic Frontier Foundation, an international non-profit digital advocacy group that helps to defend civil liberties in the digital space.

We produce a collectable show featuring comic books, non-sport trading cards, new and vintage toys with a variety of dealers displaying their wares in unique and interesting ways that could be easily viewed and appreciated by both the general public and devout collectors alike. Now some 18 years and 134 shows later we hope that we have accomplished our goal, and then some.
