Ryu-Kon has moved to one of the hottest tourist spots in the world, Niagara Falls! That means that in addition to all of the Anime & Gaming fun, there will also be Steampunk themed panels, workshops, vendors, artists, cosplay, contests and more. There will even be a formal Steampunk Ball in addition to the Glow in the Dark Anime Ball. Spyder Designs will be doing a Steampunk Fashion Show and the streets will even be closed down for our first annual Cosplay Parade. Gamers will lose their minds will so many fun gaming shinanigans going on throughout the weekend, such as open gaming in our Video Game Room, Video Game Tournaments with prizes and no entrance fee! What?! Get physical in our Healthy Shinanigans Club Room where there will be additional Dance & Fitness gaming free play all weekend and the home of the Wii Dance Off. If table gaming is your nitch, perhaps our table top game room in the 32, 000 square foot Dragon Plaza will be the place for you. Open play will be going on all weekend along with game demos and tournaments such as Yu-Gi-Oh, Magic: the Gathering, Steve Jackson Games and Privateer Press games and more. Crazy games and contests will be going on all weekend for the competitive types. While Ryu-Kon is family friendly, we do not disappoint the adult crowd. Then on Sunday we will be starting our fist annual Extreme Treasure Hunt, which is the activity that has inspired the slogan- One Con....Two Countries. Race with your team around the Niagara Falls area on both sides of the border to find the most items and complete the most tasks and win the 2013 Extreme Treasure Hunt title and prize. Nan Desu Kan (a Japanese pun translating loosely to ’what is it?’) began its life in 1997 at the Tivoli Student Union as a small, fan-run convention with just 200 or so attendees. These days, several hotels and more than a decade later, NDK is still a fan-run convention. And with a total weekend attendance of more than 21,000 (over 7,000 people per day), it’s now the largest convention in Colorado and 14 surrounding states (excluding Texas), as well as one of the top ten largest anime conventions in the country. Every year, we invite a number of industry guests from North America and Japan to come to NDK, including voice actors, directors, art directors, and others. Our guests put on panels, participate as judges in our contests, and hold autograph sessions throughout the weekend. They’ve even been known to hang out with attendees from time to time. And time after time, we hear how much our guests love NDK and our attendees because they keep asking us if they can come back!
