This fall Madison, Wisconsin will play host to the newest Steampunk convention in the Midwest region. TeslaCon. The weekend festivities will be at the Radisson Inn west on Grand Canyon Drive. TeslaCon unlike other sci-fi conventions caters to the aesthetic of retro science fiction. According to Eric Larson, chairman of the convention “TC” is an immersion convention. It will offer many panels of current issues along with more specific activities linked to steampunk, but with a twist. TeslaCon will make you feel like you are taking a dirigible ride circa 1880. From the halls being resigned to the registration station being made up to feel you are boarding from a train station complete with sights & sounds. “It’s unlike anything anyone has done so far,” says Larson. The concept is to take you back in time for 3 days and enjoy the spirit that makes steampunk fandom so much fun. Along with the immersion effect there will be live music every night starting with Eli August on Friday and Scarring Party on Saturday after the conventions formal Cotillion. Several other bands will also be playing and will soon be announced. If you wish to truly become part of the weekend festivities there will also be a murder mystery event that unfolds over the entire weekend. Think Disney meets Jules Verne and you will have a good idea of what to expect. TeslaCon’s main guest of honor is Cherie Priest the author of “Boneshaker”. Cherie will be on hand throughout the weekend to talk to fans and lead discussions at various panels. TeslaCon will also be hosting a huge steam fashion show with the help of two very special guests. Heather Luca of Scoundrelleskeep will unveil her newest fall collection. Samantha Rei of Blasphemina's Closet will be hosting the event and also be selling many of her newest creations in the couture shop along with many other vendors of unique wares. The dealer’s rooms are free and open to the public. To signup for Teslacon go to: www.teslacon.org The site is linked to Eventbrite and registering takes under a minute. For further information please contact the staff through the website. The Radisson Inn may be reached at: 608-833-0100 for reduced priced room rates.
