DC Anime Club will have a Lolita Picnic. For those who are unfamiliar, Lolita is a fashion subculture in Japan that is primarily influenced by Victorian children’s clothing, as well as costumes from the Rococo period. Lolita has made this into a unique fashion by adding gothic and original design elements to the look. From this, Lolita fashion has evolved into several different sub styles and has created a devoted subculture in Japan. The Lolita look consists primarily of a knee-length skirt or dress, headdress, blouse, petticoat, knee-high socks or stockings, and rocking horse or high heel/platform shoes.

R.O.S.E.’s First Annual Steamposium will be a 3 day salon style convention in the Saint Louis area on April 9, 10 and 11th in the year of 2010. It was typical in Victorian times to gather all of the greatest minds together for a weekend of fun, frivolity and a meeting of the minds. This First Annual Steamposium will be no exception. This event will welcome all fans and future fans of the Steampunk genre that encourages characters, costumes as well as inventions. Plans are underway for an amazing event and as things are added they will be posted on the front page. There will be opportunities for Costumes to be Judged, Group Pictures, Balls, Discussions, Dances and Off Site Excursions.

Please join us in celebrating the 50th birthday of Mr. Fezziwig, the most gracious party host in all of Dickens’ London. This is a rare opportunity to enjoy the pleasures of Dickens Fair in late Spring weather! Bangers & Mash plays popular dance tunes from the Regency to the Mid-Victorian period – including waltzes, polkas, schottisches, mazurkas, reels, English country dances, and, of course, those perennial Fezziwig favorites: the Congress of Vienna Waltz, the Bohemian National Polka, Lancers, and Sir Roger de Coverley. There will be a pre-ball class in Victorian ballroom dance and, as usual, all set dances will be briefly taught or called at the ball. As always at Mr. and Mrs. Fezziwig’s parties, partners are not required and introductions to partners will happily be provided.

Historical Miniatures Gaming’s Biggest Summer Vacation! As it does every year, HISTORICON presents: the world’s largest hobby shop, plus the world’s biggest hobby flea market, for four days every July. Both offer a gigantic selection of military miniatures, rules, books and anything else needed for the historical miniature gaming hobby. HISTORICON is the historical miniatures gaming convention in the United States. Each year, thousands of avid gamers descend on historic Valley Forge, Pennsylvania for what the New York Times has described as the “mother of all wargaming conventions.” There will be hundreds and hundreds of games, the world’s biggest wargame hobby shop, painting events and much, much more. HMGS War College (formerly the Military Seminar Series): This year we have another grand battery of speakers and seminars, with topics ranging throughout history, and quite a number of theme-related. Besides numerous panels on writings and fan published works we will also have classes and demonstrations in fencing, dueling (a gentlemen’s sport), a NERF shooting range, and a full weekend mystery theater that takes place over the entire weekend (this includes full interaction with the players and the story). There will also be a High Tea and Runway fashion show with designers present.
