PAX East

Mar 6th-8th 2015

Boston, MA 02110

In 2004, the folks at Penny Arcade decided they wanted a show exclusively for gaming. Sure, comics, anime, and other nerd hobbies were cool, and those activities all had their own shows… so what about games? From that idea spawned a small 4,500 person event in Bellevue, Washington, focused on the culture and community that is gaming. Since then, the show hasn’t looked back. Doubling in size each year until venue capacities were reached, in 2010 the show expanded into Boston for PAX East, drawing tens of thousands of attendees in the inaugural year. The shows in Seattle and Boston represent the two largest gaming events in North America!

Madicon is run by the membership of the Science Fiction Fantasy Guild (SFFG), a JMU student organization. SFFG is very proud of Madicon as we approach the 22 year mark, and in the past we have hosted some really exciting guests, such as C.J. Cherryh, R.K. Post, Patricia C. Wrede, Jim Butcher, Margaret Weis and many others In the past, we have run LARPs with PST Productions an White Wolf. We have also had participation from Garrison Tyrannus of the 501st Stormtrooper Legion. We are primarily a gaming convention, running tournaments of all kinds, but we also draw a lot of costumers, students and general fandom from the Science Fiction and Fantasy crowd. And of course, we have all the normal things you would expect at such a convention: art, vendors, auctions, panels, workshops, etc. We support a charity in our area as well, the Wildlife Center of Virginia, and they put on a great show with their birds of prey every year.

Red Stick Animation Festival

May 28th-31st 2015

Baton Rouge, LA 70803

In previous years, the Red Stick Animation festival has been a highly visible and productive connection with Louisiana and the Baton Rouge community. We believe that the international exposure and community connection that a festival like Red Stick provides is much needed for the community. However, we are proposing a rebranding and retooling of the festival - to an event that will be focused on Digital Media (including, but not limited to animation), maker-fairs, experimental music concerts, digital art exhibits, game jams and other technology derived events. We are proposing to develop on a larger scale in 2015.
